SDPI CRITICISES UP GOVT’S ORDINANCE TO EXTORT MONEY FROM PROTESTERS ON ALLEGED DAMAGE TO PUBLIC PROPERTIES

New Delhi, 17th March 2020: The Social Democratic party of India, (SDPI), has criticised the Uttar Pradesh Government’s “UP Recovery of Damage to Public properties Ordinance-2020” for recovery of losses due to damage to government and private properties during political protests.

SDPI national president M. K. Faizy in a statement said that it is part of shameful politics of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. There are proper ways to deal with law breakers. Adityanath despite the court’s ruling doesn’t have the slightest respect for the judiciary or its verdict. It is clear that he behaves in many ways as a despot. It is very unfortunate that the law breaker has become CM. The moment he became CM the first thing he did was to absolve him of all those criminal cases pending against him.

Many of the names mentioned in the name and shame poster put up in the state were peaceful protestors. Imagine their properties being snatched by the state for an accusation they didn’t have nothing to do with.

Faizy stated that the Government has no powers to punish people accused of doing wrong. That is for courts to decide after due process.  One needs to prove if a culprit is innocent or guilty and that can only happen under a free and fair trial by an independent judiciary. This country is heading towards darkness under a tyrannical regime which has absolutely no respect for democracy.
