Report of Sexual Abuse on Jamia Students Shocking – SDPI

Mohammed Shafi, national general secretary of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) expressed shock and anger over the uncivilized sexual abuse by the Delhi police on Jamia students, on their rage against the anti-CAA protesters, and strongly condemned the terrible assault.

The fact-finding report released the other day by the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has revealed very horrendous incidents of police atrocities and abuse in the campus on 10th February this year. At least 45 students were sexually assaulted by policemen, the report says. Peaceful protesters of Citizenship agitation, including students and residents were brutally attacked.

Around 15 women and 30 men were assaulted in their private parts. The report states,“Women were molested by male policemen, who attempted to tear their clothes, punched their breasts or stomped on them with their boots, as well as tried to insert their batons into their vaginas. At least 15 women were stomped on in their private parts, and they suffered injuries in their vaginas.” Women as young as 16 and as old as 60 were sexually assaulted. The victims had been bedridden for weeks due to the trauma, pain, pus and bleeding resulted from the heinous abuse. Sexual assault on men was equally severe. The attack on their groins and rectum resulted in severe injuries.

Students and teachers have testified about the use of chemical gas on the peaceful protesters, and involvement of men in plain clothes or fake uniforms in the assault along with the police. “As was seen in previous campus attacks in JNU and Jamia itself, there were police personnel without name plates and badges. Also, some of the attackers wore jeans, non-police helmets and vests over their civilian clothes. The vehemence and sense of vindictiveness of the attackers was extra-ordinary,” says Aruna Roy, NFIW President.

The dirty act of the Delhi Police is unheard of in the capital this far, and it is a stigma on the image of a civilized society and the nation. Ever since the Sanghis came to power, atrocities of police against the minorities and Dalits are on the rise, along with the street rampage of the RSS goons on the minorities, said Shafi. He demanded that an impartial judicial enquiry into the dreadful sexual abuse of the Delhi Police be ordered immediately and the culprits brought to book.
