Glowing tributes paid to late A. Sayeed

NEW DELHI: A condolence meeting was organised to pay tributes to late A. Sayeed, the former president of Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), who passed away on April 2, 2019 at Edavanna of Kerala. The meeting organised by SDPI was held on April 15, 2019 in Dy. Speaker Hall, Constitution Club of India, Rafi Marg, in New Delhi.

Politicians, social activists, intellectuals and legal luminaries etc. paid glowing tributes to the head and heart qualities of Sayeed while speaking on the occasion. The leaders who spoke on the occasion included: Justice B G Kolse Patil – former Judge Mumbai High Court; Ashok Bharti – President, Jan Samman Party; S. Raghavan – President, Lokraj Sanghthan; Naved Hamid – President, AIMMM; Adv. Sharfuddin Ahmad and R P Pandeya – National Vice Presidents, SDPI; Mohammad Shafi – National Gen. Secretary, SDPI; Sitaram Khoival, Dr. Tasleem Ahmad Rehmani and Yasmin Farooqui – National Secretaries, SDPI; Prof. P Koya- and Adv. Mohamamd Yusuf- NEC Member, PFI.

Meanwhile, a brief profile of A. Sayeed, was born at Edvanana, Malappuram district, Kerala, in 1955 to the well-known Islamic scholar A. Alavi Maulavi. He was educated at local school and MES College Mampad. He followed his father’s footsteps and became a renowned scholar, public speaker and writer. He was the Chairman of National Development Front, (NDF), during 2002-2006. Later he also served as National Executive Council Member of Popular Front of India, president of Muslim Relief Network and Director of Inter Media Publishing Ltd. He authored a number of books on Islamic topics in Malayalam. Sayeed was among the pioneers who took new socio-political movements to the length and breadth of the country. His contributions to the society in terms of social and intellectual service are enormous.
