New Delhi, 17 Nov 2016: A massive protest demonstration was organized in front of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Nrupatunga Road, Bangalore, wherein the protesters were detained and released later. The demonstration was jointly organized by several socio-political organizations condemning and demanding immediate rollback of the Modi led government’s move of demonetization.

Slamming the demonetization step by Modi government, renowned rights activist and CPI(ML) leader Senior Advocate Balan questioned if the Modi Govt. can guarantee that the government servants will stop demanding bribes? How this demonetization step will stop corruption?

An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader came on heavily on the NDA Government questioning on how the demonetization will stop generation of new black money in (recent) future.

Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) State Secretary Afsar Kodlipete said, the demonetization is an absolute careless implementation which has led to the death of innocents in hospitals, farmers unable to buy seeds and fertilizers, affected business transactions of street vendors, small shops/businesses as the customers could not pay change. Afsar Kodlipet termed the demonetization nothing but a punishment to the innocent common people of the country for no fault of theirs.

Protesters demanding for an immediate rollback of the Demonetization decision at RBI Bangalore

Prominent rights activist Narsimha Murthy urged the government for faster issuance of the Rs. 500/- notes and extend the deadline to submit the old notes. He demanded that the names of Swiss bank holders and loan defaulters in Public Sector undertaking banks be publicized forthwith, begin their prosecution and recover the black money.

An activist representing Swaraj Abhiyan thundered as to why the government doesn’t bring a strong Lokpal and strengthen the CVC. He urged for freeing the CBI from the clutches of the government so as to give the investigation agency a free hand. He alleged that the government seems to be protecting the corrupt babus by introducing amendments recently in the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The police detained several leaders protesting outside the RBI at Nrupatunga road and were released later.

The organizations participated in the protest demonstration were Communist Party of India (CPI-ML), Aam Aadmi Party, Swaraj Abhiyan, National Hawkers Federation, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Garment and Textile Workers Union, National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO), New Socialist Alternative, Fascist Virodhi Okkuta, May 17 Movement, Karnataka Sangolli Rayanna Yuvakara Vedike, Karnataka Bahujana Kranti Dala, Karnataka Tamil Makkal Ilayakkam and Tamil Solidarity.
