Bangalore 05 May 2017: SDPI Karnarataka General Secretary Abdul Lateef severely criticized State Government for defending the law intended to protect the ‘Gau Rakshaks’ (cow vigilante groups). Lateef, in a press statement said, poor farmers, Dalits and Muslims are being tortured mentally, abused physically and being murdered mercilessly by these unrestrained cow vigilante goons and Siddaramaiah led Congress government defending a law aimed at protecting such hooligans is highly condemn able act.
He questioned, does the Congress government thinks that the recent criminal incident of Udupi in which a cattle trader Praveen Poojary has been mercilessly thrashed to death by the so called outlaws is for any good purpose? If at all the law is taken in own hands by different groups and demonstrate the purpose to be of good faith, what would be the situation of law and order in the country, Lateef questioned.
Lateef demanded that those who breed ad foster cows across the country should only be announced as ‘Gau Rakshaks’. The SDPI leader appealed that the so called ‘Gau Rakshaks’ (cow vigilantes) who pretend to be the protectors of cows but unleash violence on weaker sections creating disturbance in the peaceful society, sow seeds of hatred between communities be banned forthwith.
