Government shall fulfill its moral responsibility – SDPI
New Delhi, 27 June 2017: Social Democratic Party of India demands Government to come forward with stringent action to stop atrocities against Muslims vigorously spreading all over the country. Since the BJP came to power, extremist Hindu groups have led mob attacks across the country to enforce cultural nationalism. Senior BJP leaders, including elected officials and leaders of various groups are instigating hate crimes. Instead of taking prompt legal action against the culprits the police register cases against the victims, their relatives, and associates. SDPI National President A Sayeed, in a press statement issued here today, insisted that the Prime Minister should condemn this violence and take stern action to protect the life and wealth of Muslims.
The recent murder of minor Muslim boy, Hafiz Junaid (16), is brutal. He was stabbed to death and four others were injured in a Mathura bound train on their return from Delhi after Eid shoping on Friday 23 June 2017. The attackers repeatedly called them anti-nationals and beef eaters, threw their skull caps on the floor, caught their beards, taunted them with terms such as Mulla and finally used knife against them.
On the previous day, 22nd June, 70-year-old Maulavi Mohammad Younus was shot dead by four unidentified persons when he was offering namaz inside a mosque in Naseerpur village of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh. Shabir Ahamed, a 56-year-old man was shot dead in a mosque in Sonepat’s Rasoi village of Hariyana, when he was offering prayers on 17th June 2017.
Self-appointed cow protectors are killing people and terrorizing minority communities. Starting from the vicious killing of 60-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq of Dadri Uttarpradesh in September 2015 several such incidents are being repeated in the country. Cow vigilantism has become a license in the hands of Hindutwa goons to humiliate, attack, rob and kill Muslims all over the country. Zahid Ahamed, a truck driver from Kashmir, Nuaman Saharanpur, Mazloom Ansaari and Imthias Khan from Jharkhand, Mustan Abbas Hariyana, Pahlu Khan of Alwar Rajastan, Mohamed Nasirul Haque, Mohamed Samiruddin and Mohamed Nasir of West Bengal are some of those, who were killed by the so called cow protectors.
Riyas Moulavi (34), a native of Madikeri in Kodagu district of Karnataka, was murdered by RSS men, inside the Muhayuddin Juma Masjid in Kasaragod Kerala, on 20th March 2017.
Ahraf Kalayi, 35 years old, an autorickshaw driver and president of SDPI’s Ammnje Branch in Bantwal taluk, Karnataka was killed by a group of six RSS men while he was travelling in his autorikshaw with his friend Seenappa Poojary to collect beedis. Ashraf had participated in the party’s foundation day programme at Kalayi village before he was killed.
A Muslim man was beaten to death by municipality employees in Pratapgarh district on Friday 16 June 2017. 55-year-old social worker, Zafar Khan, resident of Kacchi Basti, Mahtab Shah Colony in Pratapgarh town, was thrashed by the government officials who wanted to take pictures of defecating women in the open to shame people. Khan has reportedly stopped them from taking pictures when they assaulted him.
In the wake of wide-spread attacks on Muslims, Sayeed demanded that government should take specific steps to contain the situation. If not, the government is morally bound to provide weapons to Muslims for their self-protection.
