Hyderabad/Telangana 27 May 2017: Communal goons attacked Fatima Church in Telangana; SDPI assured its full support in the legal fight
Another heinous act of ransacking a place of worship by the communal hooligans in Telangana. There were religious programs which were being inaugurated by Bishop Thungabal at Fatima Church, which belongs to the Roman Catholic Christians, when a group of goons ransacked the Church premises including the Christ Cross, the statue of Jesus and electrical equipments found in the premises. The anti-social elements were raising provocative slogans while they damaged the Church property.
SDPI sent out a delegation to the Church to look in to the subject, held talks with the Church officials and police officers.
SDPI Karnataka Secretary Akram Hasan, while talking to the media persons said, we took stock of the flagitious incident at the Church and recorded statements from all the concerned. We have assured the Church authorities our full support in looking after the case legally.
SDPI Karnataka State Secretary Alfonso Franco expressed displeasure over the stoppage of religious prayers in the Church forceably by the local administration. Alfonso termed it an act of communal terror aimed not only at hurting religious sentiments of Christians across the world but also to make political gains by the thugs at the behest of some corrupt and communal politicos.
Popular Front Telangana State Gen Secretary Abid Shaikh urged the state government to take stringent action against the perpetrators of violence.
Hyderabad Human Rights Group activist Baby Reddy appealed for communal harmony among Dalits, Muslims and Christians and gave a call for unity among minorities and dalits, so together such incidents could be addressed effectively.
The delegation which visited the Kesar in Telangana also comprised of Hyderabad Human Rights Group activist Krishna.
